Those who lost their lives in the battle of the Battle of the Somme are being remembered today.
Over 80 men from Donegal died on the first day of the battle. By the time it ended on 18th November 1916, there were over a million casualties.
Commemorative events are taking place in Derry, Raphoe and elsewhere across the country, while the Donegal County Museum is hosting a series of events over the weekend, culminating in a film screening containing actual footage from the battle on Sunday.
The Minister for Arts and Heritage Heather Humphreys is in France today, which she’ll attend a series of commemorative events……………
