Galbraith and Gleeson to fight for title in Ballyliffen

John Ross Galbraith will face fellow international Alex Gleeson in the final of the AIG Irish Amateur Close at Ballyliffin this afternoon.
Galbraith beat Newlands’ Jake Whelan in this mornings semi final 3&1 while Gleeson produced a stunning iron shot at the 18th to seal a one-hole win against Peter Kerr.
Galbraith, who is bidding for his second Close title, entered the matchplay as the leading qualifier, taking the silver medal in the stroke competition earlier in the week.
It’s second successive appearance in the final for Gleeson, he lost to Tiarnan McLarnon at Tramore last year.
The final is due to start at 1.15pm
