The North’s Deputy First Minister has welcomed confirmation that the British Government is prepared to fund a public service obligation air link between City of Derry Airport and London.
Martin Mc Guinness met with Northern Secretary James Brokenshire yesterday, and impressed on him the importance of a PSO in terms of economic development and connectivity for the entire north west reaction.
Last week, Mr Brokenshire confirmed in the House of Commons that he was examining the situation, following Ryanair’s announcement that it is ending it’s Derry – Standstead service.
Mr Mc Guinness says after receiving positive indications from the British government, he is also lobbying the Irish Government to put in place a similar arrangement, and believes there is a compelling case to be made for that.
