Carthy accuses FG of undermining EU Parliament tax scrutiny report

Its been claimed that Fine Gael could be helping multinationals to avoid public scrutiny of their tax affairs.
Last night, in a joint vote, the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and Legal Affairs Committee adopted a report intended to ensure companies publically report on their earnings, staff and tax payments on a country-by-country basis.
However, Sinn Fein’s Matt Carthy claims a number of MEPs, including Fine Gael’s Brian Hayes, voted to insert a major loophole into the document.
He claims a “commercial sensitivity” clause supported by both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael’s groupings renders the report ineffective, and undermines what it is trying to achieve.
Mr Carthy says this is a serious issue………….
