The years started brightly – in the National Football League Donegal stay in Division 1.
The championship would be a different story.
Donegal’s dream of a sixth successive Ulster Senior Football Championship Final were well and truly buried in June by a vastly superior Tyrone side who ended up very comfortable nine-point winners in Clones (1-21 to 1-12).
So it was through the back door for Donegal . They beat Longford and Meath but would fail to Galway.
They suffered a heavy 4-17 to 0-14 defeat at the hands of Galway in a Round 4 game at Markievicz Park in Sligo.
There were also some retirements from the Donegal squad – Rory Kavanagh, Karl Lacey, Christy Toye, Neil Gallagher and David Walsh.
