Taoiseach seeks answers on Letterkenny short stay ward

The Taoiseach says that despite trying to see clarity as to why Letterkenny University Hospital has been refused funding to reopen its short stay ward, he still doesn’t have the answers.
It’s long been anticipated that the overcrowding crisis at the hospital would ease if 1.8 million euro was made available to increase bed capacity by 19.
Leo Varadkar was quizzed on the issue by Donegal Deputy Charlie McConalogue in the Dail last evening.
Responding, the Taoiseach suggested that a more speedily response may be obtained if the question was asked through parliamentary question to the Health Minister:

Meanwhile there were 24 people waiting for a bed at Letterkenny University Hospital this morning according to INMO.
Four people were on trolleys in its Emergency Department while a further 20 were waiting on wards.
Cork University Hospital was the most overcrowded this morning with 58 people waiting there.
Nationally, there were 580 people waiting at hospitals across the country.
