A decision on whether to reopen the 19-bed Short Stay Ward at Letterkenny University Hospital will not be made until October of this year.
The confirmation comes following a question put by Donegal Senator Padraig MacLochlainn to the Health Minister on the issue.
A funding application of €1.8 million was submitted by hospital management last year which would reopen the ward and long been seen as a way forward in addressing the overcrowding crisis at the hospital.
Senator MacLochlainn says a seven month delay for a decision is completely unacceptable:
