Alleged Donegal rape victim “closed her eyes & tried to think about something else”

An 18-year-old girl who was allegedly raped behind a building in a Co Donegal town has told a court she “closed her eyes and tried to think about something else” in the hope that it would be over soon.
The girl broke down repeatedly as she was being cross-examined yesterday on the third day of the trial at the Central Criminal Court.
A 19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to one count of rape and one of oral rape of the girl in the town following St Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 18, 2016.
The girl, who was 16 at the time, told the court previously she had spent a few hours in a pub before meeting the accused, whom she knew from school, in a nearby take-away.
She alleges she went for a walk, on his suggestion, and that he raped and orally raped her behind a building.
The girl said she would get “quite light-headed, maybe dizzy” when she drank alcohol but said it never affected her memory.
However, of the alleged incident, she told the court; “Whenever it was happening, I remember thinking that if I just closed my eyes and tried to think about something else that it would be over soon, so I don’t remember the end of it.”
The court heard she told a relative a number of days after, that the boy made her perform oral sex and then had had sex with her.
She said the relative asked her if she was raped and she replied yes.
The trial continues.
