The Donegal Ladies started their National Football League campaign with a fantastic win over All-Ireland and National League champions Dublin in Croke Park on Saturday by 1-11 v 1-07.
It was the first time Donegal had played in GAA Headquarters since 2010 but that didn’t phase Maxi Curran’s side as they took control early. Player of the Match Karen Guthrie scored 1-04, with the goal coming in the first half to leave the Donegal Ladies leading by 3 points at half time, 1-05 v 0-05.
The second half saw Dublin attempt a comeback but Donegal stood firm and scores from Geraldine McLaughlin kept the scoreboard ticking over. Captain Guthrie scored the insurance point in injury time to give the Donegal the 4 point win and the all important 2 league points.
