Hotels say a cut in the VAT rate would’ve done more for businesses than the ‘stay and spend’ tax rebate.
The scheme announced yesterday runs from October until April 2021 – and gives people 125 euro back off a maximum spend of 625 euro on accomodation and food.
The tourism industry had been calling for incentives for people to travel around the country – but also wanted the VAT rate to be dropped from 13 percent to five percent.
Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, President of the Irish Hotels Federation, says it’s coming at a welcome time for the sector:
