Average rents in Donegal rose by more than 14% year on year between April and June, according figures published this morning by daft.ie.
The analysis also shows that when mortgage and rent costs are compared, a mortgage can be considerably less than the rental cost of a similar property.
According to the latest daft.ie report, rents in Donegal were on average 14.6% higher in the second quarter of this year than they a year previously. The average listed rent is now €744, up 53% from its lowest point.
That’s still the second lowest average rent in the country, with only Leitrim returning a lower figure at €695.
Nationally rents increased by 5.6%, with Connacht Ulster the region with the highest percentage rise at 14.7%. In Munster, the rise was 13.7%, in Leinster, it was 8.6%.
A comparison of average mortgages versus average rents shows for a three bedroom house, a mortgage could be as low as €382, while rent would be €704. The gap is narrower for a four bedroom house, with mortgage of €781 compared to rent of of €807.
