38 children in CHO1 awaiting over a year for mental healthcare

38 children in the Donegal healthcare area have been waiting over a year to access vital mental healthcare.

In total 417 children are on the waiting list for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in CHO1 which covers Donegal, the fourth highest figure in the country.

The service provides treatment for young people with moderate to severe difficulties.

The figures provided to Newstalk reveal 206 of those children have been waiting less than 12 weeks, while 98 have been waiting up to 26 weeks.

57 patients have been waiting over 26 weeks but less than 39 weeks while 18 have been waiting between 39 and 52 weeks.

Nationally, 141 children have been waiting over 18 months for crucial mental health treatment.

They’re among nearly 4,200 people on the waiting list for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
