Historic Donegal Steam Engine Drumboe installation officially launched

A historic restored Donegal Steam Engine was launched this week after it returned to Donegal Town several months ago.

This is the first original Donegal steam engine to have been returned to the County in many decades and this particular train was the very last engine to operate a passenger service in the county, on the 31st December 1959, leaving Donegal Town Station for Strabane.

Work has continued on completing the “Drumboe Project” which included the building of a new presentation platform for Drumboe, a canopy to cover the train, LED feature lighting, safety barriers, landscaping across the site, as well as the building of a new track for a ride-on railway.

Niall McCaughan, Manager at the Donegal Railway Heritage Museum says the train is fast becoming a popular attraction.
