President Michael D Higgins is due to travel to Donegal this week to take part in the National Famine Commemoration.
A wreath laying ceremony will take place in Milford on Sunday in remembrance of all those who suffered or perished during the Famine.
President Higgins will represent the Government and will be accompanied by Minister Jack Chambers.
