‘Weight loss tourism’ causes complications for Irish health system

There are calls for a register of ‘weight loss tourism’ patients following a number of reports of serious complications post-surgery.

The Irish Medical Journal claims that there is a huge burden placed on the country’s healthcare system by patients returning home to Ireland.

The report discussed four specific cases where surgeries carried out in Turkey, Thailand, Prague and Dubai needed post-operative care costing thousands of Euro.
