LUH dealing with multiple outbreaks of respiratory illnesses

Letterkenny University Hospital is currently dealing with nine outbreaks of respiratory illnesses.

As a result of rising rates of respiratory illness, namely RSV, COVID-19 and flu in the community members of the public are asked not to visit patients at the hospital if they are feeling unwell.

Letterkenny University Hospital Manager, Sean Murphy is urging people to be mindful of the safety of vulnerable patients due to the very high levels of respiratory viruses circulating in the community.

People are advised to not visit the hospital if you have a cough, cold, temperature, runny nose or sneezing.

All visitors will be requested to wear a face mask.

In a statement, Saolta says anyone who has respiratory symptoms should stay at home until they have been symptom free for 48 hours.

If you are concerned about your symptoms or your condition worsens, contact your GP or GP out of hours service.
