LUH staff told not to ask patients to lie on floor

Staff at Letterkenny University Hospital have been told not to ask patients to lie on the floor.

The Irish Times reports that the recommendation was made following an incident in September 2022 in which a patient who had fainted was asked to lie on the floor of the hospital’s Emergency Department as no bed or chair was available.

The man says he was contacted on three occasions following his discharge from the hospital due to administrative errors.

The Irish Times says the hospital apologised to the patient last July for “deficits in care” during his attendance at the ED.
