Full Statement:

Tánaiste and Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil, Micheál Martin TD has said he is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Councillor Noreen McGarvey.

“I am very sorry to learn of the death of my friend, fellow party member and councillor, Noreen McGarvey.

“Noreen was elected to Donegal County Council in 2019, representing the Glenties Local Electoral Area (LEA). Prior to her election, she worked with former TD, Minister and MEP, Pat the Cope Gallagher for nearly 20 years, initially as an activist and then supporting his work, based in his constituency office. In that time, she was an integral part of community and political life in South Donegal. Noreen was passionate about helping to improve people’s lives in south Donegal and latterly in the Glenties LEA. She cared deeply about people and was a conscientious and caring public representative, always putting people and their concerns first. Noreen was one of our first-time councillors elected in 2019. She was a true community champion and as one of our councillors was an important voice within the party along with her community and county.

“Noreen was a proud Burtonport woman and loved the Irish language. She was a long-time and valued member of Fianna Fáil.

“On my own behalf, and on behalf of the Fianna Fáil organisation, I offer my deepest sympathy to Noreen’s family, her daughter Amy, Father Séamus, Mother Susie, Brother Declan and Sisters Collette and Debbie and the wider McGarvey family.

“RIP.”

Deir an Tánaiste agus Uachtarán Fhianna Fáil, Micheál Martin gur fhág bás an Chomhairleora Noreen Mc Garvey faoi bhrón mór é.

Is mór an chúis bhróin dom an nuacht a chloisteáil faoi bhás mo charad, ball ár bpáirtí agus an Comhairleoir Nóirín Nic Gharbhaith.

Toghadh Noreen mar Chomhairleoir ar Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall sa bhliain dhá mhíle is a naoi déag ag déanamh ionadaíochta do thoghcheantar áitiúil na nGleannta. Sular toghadh í ar an gComhairle Contae, d’oibrigh Noreen leis an Iar Theachta Dála, Aire agus Feisire de Pharlaimint na hEorpa Pat the Cope Gallagher le beagnach fiche bliain, ar dtús mar ghníomhaí agus ansin ag tacú lena chuid oibre agus í lonnaithe ina oifig thoghcheantair.Le linn an ama sin bhí Noreen lárnach in imeachtaí pobail agus sa saol polaitiúil i nDún na nGall Theas.
Bhíodh Noreen i gcónaí tiomanta agus díograiseach ag cabhrú le feabhas a chur ar shaol an phobail i nDún na nGall Theas agus ina dhiaidh sin mar Chomhairleoir i dtoghcheantar na nGleannta.
Bhí spéis mhór ag Noreen aire den chéad scoth a thabhairt do dhaoine agus mar Ionadaí Pobail bhíodh sí i gcónaí coinsiasach ag cur daoine agus a gcúiseanna imní chun tosaigh i gcónaí.
Toghadh í i measc ár gComhairleoirí a toghadh den chéad uair in 2019. Ba chrann taca pobail í Noreen agus mar Chomhairleoir,
bhí guth tábhachtach ag Noreen taobh istigh dá páirtí, ina pobal féin agus ina contae dúchais
Bhí Noreen bródúil as Ailt an Chorráin agus grá mór aici dá teanga dhúchais, an Ghaeilge.
Ba bhall luachmhar fadtéarmach de pháirtí Fhianna Fáil í.

Ar mo shon féin agus ar son eagraíocht Fhianna Fáil déanaim comhbhrón ó chroí le teaghlach Nóirín, a hiníon Amy, a hathair Séamus, a máthair Susie, a deartháir Declan agus a deirfiúracha Collette agus Debbie agus le muintir Mhic Gharbhaith ar fad.

Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a hanam uasal. Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.
