Dolphins rescued from Mountcharles beach

Two dolphins have been rescued after becoming stranded on a South Donegal beach.

A mother and her calf were found in the Mountcharles area on Saturday.

The pair were safely refloated.

Assistance was provided to locals by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group as they made their way to the scene.

A spokesperson for the IWDG says given the spring tides, it was likely the incident was an accidental stranding which they say can happen common dolphins.

Later that evening another report was received that a dolphin had been found 3km-4km further west.

After carrying out a search of the area, it was determined that the dolphin had left the area.
