DCI shot in Omagh receives royal award

A Detective Chief Inspector who was shot in Omagh last year was among those who were recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list over the weekend.

DCI John Caldwell suffered ‘life changing’ injuries in the attack that happened in front of his son at a sports complex.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that Caldwell has been awarded the King’s Police Medal.

Commenting, PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said officers continue to face serious threats, and the award is not only in recognition of DCI Caldwell’s service, but also in the bravery of his family.
