People in the Strabane area are being urged to get involved with the town’s annual St Patrick’s Day Parade.
Derry City and Strabane District Council is urging people to help make the celebration in March bigger and better than ever.
Mayor Cllr Lilian Seenoi Barr has this week issued an invitation to people to get involved saying St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year in Strabane, and council is currently making plans for the 2025 parade.
In particular, costume designers, artists are being sought, along with bands and people who can work behind the scenes to help make sure everything runs smoothly on the day, and bring a new energy to the event.
Paying tribute to those involved in previous parades, Mayor Barr is stressing that events like St Patrick’s Day don’t happen without the support and involvement of the local community, and every year council relies on individuals and organisations to contribute to the event.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Lilian Seenoi Barr issued an invitation to people to get involved saying: “St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest days of the year in Strabane and lots of local families love to come out and enjoy the parade every March. The celebration coincides with the start of Spring and we love to mark the changing season with a magical programme of music, dance, food and folklore.
“We are currently making plans for the 2025 parade and would love your help to make this year’s event a success. Maybe you are really artistic and could help out with some costume design or creation, are you involved in a local band or group who could take part in the parade, or would you like to work behind the scenes to help make sure everything runs smoothly on the day? If you think you have an idea or skills which could really make Strabane’s St Patrick’s Day stand out, then we want to hear from you!”
Mayor Barr added: “Events like St Patrick’s Day don’t happen without the support and involvement of the local community. Every year we rely on individuals and organisations to contribute to the event – we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken part in previous parades, and we look forward to working with you all again this year. However, we also need more people to come forward with new ideas and a fresh energy, so even if you haven’t been involved before, please get in touch.”
