An alert’s been issued over the “unprecedented numbers” of Pacific pink salmon in rivers.
Inland Fisheries Ireland says the potential presence of large numbers of the non-native species post a threat to the survival of native Atlantic salmon and sea trout.
It’s asking anglers to report any sightings of the Pacific pink salmon to the IFI.
The species has appeared in large numbers in multiple river systems in the west, northwest and southwest in previous years.
