Jim Gavin says he would like to use a term of presidency to unite people across the island.
He’s officially launched his campaign in Dublin today to succeed Michael D Higgins.
Part of his action plan is to encourage youth activity, drive inclusivity and to engage in impartial national dialogue.
When asked if he’d like to see a border poll in his term, Mr Gavin said that would be a matter for Governments of the day:
