Police in Derry have launched an investigation following a security alert in the city yesterday evening.
Shortly after 5.35pm yesterday, Police received a report that a device had been left at a residential property in the Campion Court area.
Officers attended, alongside Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO), who examined the device.
It was deemed to be viable and made safe before it was removed for further forensic examination.
A number of local residents had to be evacuated from the area, and were returned to their homes this morning.
The PSNI say the device posed a serious risk to the local community and they are thankful it did not detonate before it was discovered.
They are also asking that the public be vigilant to any suspicious items or behaviour in their area, and report any concerns to them immediately.
Officers are continuing to maintain a presence in the area today as they conduct further enquiries.
They are appealing to anyone with any information in relation to the incident to contact them on 101.
