Synge & Byrne closes Derry café as chain ceases trading in NI

A fixture of Derry’s café scene for more than 13 years, Synge & Byrne at Foyleside Shopping Centre has closed, as the chain ceases trading across Northern Ireland.

The closure affects up to 80 staff, including 12 in Derry.

Director Damien Garvey said that despite their best efforts, rising costs and mounting debt pressures made it impossible to continue trading.

The AAB Group is assisting the directors with the closure, and staff and creditors have been formally notified.
