The Dromore Killygordon footbridge has been closed immediately due to structural issues.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation on the main road bridge to allow a pedestrian walkway.
Donegal County Council say the Roads Office will update local councillors and the public next week.
They are asking the public to allow extra time when using this route.
