Amid a six-week hosepipe ban for parts of the country to safeguard public water supplies, comparisons are being drawn to data centres’ water consumption.
Figures from Uisce Éireann show 57 data centres use a total average of 4.78 million litres of water a day.
The Irish Independent reports there are about 100 operational data centres in Ireland, but not all use water from the Uisce Éireann network.
