End of hospital insourcing could impact thousands of patients in West and Northwest

Cuts to insourcing at hospitals could impact access to healthcare, according to an internal HSE report.

The Irish Times reports that the controversial practice involves external companies using public hospital staff or facilities to treat patients outside of normal working hours.

While the system has been financially lucrative, it has also helped reduce waiting lists.

From June 30th, no new insourcing arrangements can commence, with an internal report from the HSE West and North West warning that the complete ending of the practice could affect thousands of patients.
