Donegal man jailed in Scotland on firearm offence

A Donegal man who was armed with a loaded revolver in a Glasgow nightclub was jailed for five years today.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the gun 36-year-old Anton Duffy was carrying inside his jacket had seven live bullets.
Anton Duffy, from County Donegal,  admitted having the Russian manufactured revolver at Firewater in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, on August 8, this year.
He also pleaded guilty to having seven bullets in his possession.
The court heard that Duffy was given the gun to look after by an unnamed man and was too terrified to say no.
Sentencing Duffy judge Lord Kinclaven told him he had committed two serious offences.
But, Lord Kinclaven added that Duffy made a poor judgement at the time of the offence. He also said he was a talented artist and athlete and who had no previous convictions.
The judge said that in view of this he could impose the minimum five-year sentence for the firearms offences.
