The owner of a Dublin hotel where David Byrne was murdered says it has suffered devastating financial losses because of what happened.
The High Court heard last month s shooting has directly resulted in the cancellation of a number of events.
In a sworn affidavit, the owner James McGettigan who has Donegal connections said the great deal of media attention it received on that date – Feb 5th – was both understandable and regrettable .
He said the location of the shooting became widely known because of that footage and their long-established family-run business has suffered reputational damage and loss of earnings due to a number of cancellations.
The hotel has made a claim of just over ¬ 217,000 with its insurer, but Mr. McGettigan claims Aviva Insurance have failed to engage with them fully.
He s now seeking permission from the High Court to serve notice of legal proceedings against the company. The matter is due back before the court next month.
