League of Ireland Premier Division result, April 16: Longford Town 1 v 1 Derry
Derry City came away from Longford with a draw on Saturday for this League of Ireland Premier Division clash.
Ireland international James McClean’s brother Patrick scored a terrific 35-yard equaliser with his left foot for the Candystripes on 73 minutes after coming off the bench at Longford’s City Calling Stadium.
The Brandywell club avoided defeat but they dropped two points in their quest for the European league places, which are being targeted by manager Kenny Shiels.
Longford started the game as the top division’s bottom club and Derry’s fans hoped the in-form side would add a sixth win in seven games.
It could have been different for a dominant Derry side, but Rory Patterson, from Strabane, missed a penalty after he was tripped in the box and Derry later also hit the crossbar.
