The Lough Foyle Ferry service linking Greencastle and Magilligan is expected to be up and running this week.
The new operator, Rooskey Frazer and Company is said to be carrying out maintenance work and improvements to the vessel and this has held back plans to resume the service early this month as planned.
During the summer months the ferry is expected to extend its timetable with extra daily crossings to begin in the coming weeks.
Local Councillor Nicolas Crossan says the delay is worth waiting for as it will be a major boost in tourim for the Inishowen area:
