Tyrone lose All Ireland quarter-final against Mayo

All Ireland quarter-final result: Tyrone 0-12 v 0-13 Mayo
Mayo are through to the All Ireland semi-final after beating Tyrone.
The sides played out a nip-and-tuck first half, with Mayo starting the scoring through Aidan O’Shea on six minutes.
Ulster champions Tyrone were in danger of drifting in these opening exchanges as Mayo started brightly.
But the Red Hands found some rhythm, with Niall Sludden getting their first point and Ronan O’Neill (pictured) adding to the early scores.
After 25 minutes, the sides were tied on five points each, and as the game approached half-time, Tyrone went in front for the first time and opened a two-point lead.
But they were level again at the break: Tyrone 0-07 v 0-07 Mayo.
Mayo started the second half, as they did the first, by quickly blasting over a point, and Tyrone continued to stay in touch and levelled the game again on 49 minutes.
Conor McAliskey’s free made it 10 points each and then Peter Harte pointed with his left boot to put Tyrone ahead by a point.
But Mayo’s Lee Keegan made it 11 points each before Tyrone were disadvantaged by the sending off of Sean Cavanagh, who went after two yellows on 58 minutes.
Mayo immediately retook the lead thanks to the free from Cillian O’Connor.
But Tyrone’s Darren McCurry soon made it 12 points each as both sides struggled to get ahead.
Mayo’s Lee Keegan then scored a cracker of a point to edge the Connacht men back in front again.
They took that narrow one-point lead in to the four minutes of injury time.
Tyrone hit their eighth wide on 73 minutes as they searched for another leveller, but Mayo hung on and reached the All Ireland semi-final.
They play Tipperary on August 21.
