Concern over areas of Donegal falling between the cracks after elections

 

There’s concern that areas of Donegal may fall between the cracks after the local elections.
New boundaries mean that the Letterkenny MD will be inheriting the Manorcunningham area later this year with the current roads engineer urged to make sure these routes are maintained adequately going forward.
Donegal County Council says that Letterkenny road engineers will take over the area as of the date of the elections in May but stressed that a transition period will occur.
Cllr James Pat McDaid says that it’s important to find the right balance:

 
Meanwhile an Inishowen councillor says the Department of the Environment must move now to clarify the precise boundary changes to be implemented at the local elections in May, and what arrangements are being put in place to ensure that affected areas don’t lose out.
Cllr Paul Canning says in his own area, there are townlands which will be moving from Inishowen to Letterkenny, but at the moment, people in those areas don’t have clarity as to who to see now in relation to housing applications, road repairs and other council services.
With just over three months to go to the local elections, he wants a national directive to be issued now:
