Lack of medical letters creating problems with social housing

 

There are calls for a change in policy in relation to medical support letters required for housing support applications or transfers for those with a disability. 
Problems are said to be arising with people wishing to get accommodation to suit their needs but the lack of documentation from consultants is creating stumbling blocks.
Census figures for Donegal show that 13% of those living in social housing have some sort of a disability but only some of them attend a consultant.
Cllr Gerry Crawford says there needs to be an overhaul in the way these applications are processed because the current format is resulting in people waiting years for small improvements to their homes:
