Consultation on Clooney Masterplan to end in September

People in Derry are being urged to give their views on the future recreational development of the Clooney area of the Waterside.

The deadline for the online consultation is Wednesday September 15th.

Derry City and Strabane District Council says the plans are intended to improve community green infrastructure and connectivity in the area, with enhanced greenway and sports facility provision as well as a new community park which will link neighbourhoods and facilities together.

In 2018, the council backed the vision laid out in the Clooney Masterplan, supported by the Department for Communities, and since then has begun formal negotiations with the Education Authority to secure lands at the former Ebrington Primary School site.

The council says money has been set aside through the Capital Review Group to purchase these lands and to cover design development costs for a new greenway expansion which will build on the success of the Clooney Greenway.

The Council’s Green Infrastructure team has been working closely at the request of DfC with relevant stakeholders to help identify priorities for the area, and this consultation is an important element of that process.

The consultation is being carried out online at www.derrystrabane.com/clooneymasterplan.

The Council’s Parks Development Manager, Colin Kennedy says the council are interested in hearing peoples views:
