Energy firms should have a windfall tax imposed on their profits by September.
Energy Minister Eamon Ryan is expected to get cabinet backing today for new laws to implement the tax.
It should be enacted by the Dail’s summer break and is expected to generate revenues of between 280 and 600 million euro.
