HSE-employed GPs could become a possibility in areas where it’s difficult to attract and retain staff.
It’s included in the Terms of Reference for a Strategic Review of General Practice to be completed this year.
The review aims to identify challenges facing the sector such as GP shortages, and highlight where improvements should be made.
Reforms to Out of Hours GP services will also be considered in the review, to improve accessibility across the country.
