Major abortion legislation review to be made public today

A major independent review into Ireland’s abortion legislation is being made public today.

The Termination of Pregnancy Act, passed in 2018, stated that a review must be carried out within three years.

The Health Minister yesterday got Cabinet approval to publish the report and for its recommendations to be referred on to the Oireachtas Health Committee.

They include removing the mandatory three-day wait period before accessing an abortion, and the criminalisation of doctors.
