Temperatures as low as -3 degrees in parts of Donegal this morning

A low temperature of -3 degrees was recorded in Donegal this morning.

The county remains under a status yellow low temperature and ice warning while most of the country is covered by an orange weather warning until later this mrning.

Met Eireann is warning of extremely cold conditions and widespread severe frost.

Co Tipperary recorded the coldest temperature overnight- which was -5.7 degrees in Gurteen while Mullingar in Westmeath dipped to -4.9.

Dangerous travelling conditions are being reported this morning with many roads and footpaths resembling ice rinks.

Some schools are shut while others are opening later than usual.

Transport services are also facing disruption while thousands in Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary are facing their fourth day with no power.

The current orange alert for low temperatures and ice remains in place for most of the country until 10 o’clock this morning when the less severe yellow one will kick back in.

Then another orange alert comes into effect at 6 o’clock this evening until 11 o’clock tomorrow.

Met Eireann has also extended the yellow alert until midday on Friday.
