A home in Castlegrove, Raphoe was broken into between 8 pm on Sunday and 11 am the following morning.
The owner returned after being away for the night to see the back door ajar and items having been disturbed.
Nothing was stolen nor was damage caused to gain entry.
Gardaí are asking those who believe they witnessed suspicious activity within these hours to contact them.
