Concerns raised over proposed 17% increase to personal injury awards

The Enterprise Minister is defending plans to increase personal injury awards.

A Cabinet sub-committee is meeting today to examine recommendations from the Judicial Council for a 17% increase in the threshold.

A recent Central Bank report found the cost of settling motor claims rose 23% in the first six months of last year, compared to 2023.

Minister Peter Burke says the insurance sector also needs to be held accountable for rising prices:

The Irish Hotels Federation says the planned 17%  increase in personal injury award levels would seriously hit the hospitality sector.
