Pádraig Delargy has announced he will not seek re-election next year.
The Sinn Féin MLA said it has been the honour of his life to serve the people of Derry, but that he and his family will be moving away early next year, making it difficult to carry out his duties effectively.
Mr Delargy added he made the decision early to allow for planning and ensure a strong election campaign in 2027.
