New Government Marine protections to be fast-tracked

More of Ireland’s coastal waters will be protected under new conservation laws.

Ministers agreed last night to fast-track new legislation aimed at protecting more seas and marine wildlife.

The new measures are designed to conserve biodiversity, deliver on energy security, and help tackle climate change.

Junior Minister for Fisheries and the Marine, Timmy Dooley, says they’ve set a target of protecting 30 per cent of Ireland’s coastal sea area by 2030:
