Highland Radio News can reveal that Raphoe Town Football Club has been granted permission to build a new Football pitch, clubhouse and car park.
In January, conditional permission was granted for the development to be located at Drumineney, Raphoe but that was appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
After the council awarded permission a small group of neighbours adjacent to proposed development objected.
They argued that it would interfere with the enjoyment of their rural homes through noise pollution, light pollution and extra traffic.
The group also argued that the service road for the development was not adequate and that work would be carried out close to a national monument.
Mayor Frank McBrearty backed the club expressing his disappointment that a small number of people living in the community felt the way they do about the project.
However this week, An Bord Pleanala said the development can go ahead subject to a number of conditions. These include a revised parking layout, the retention of the boundary hedgerow and the preservation, recording and protection of archaeological materials that may be found on the site.
