There’s been widespread condemnation after a police patrol was targetted in a pipe bomb attack in Strabane.
A major security alert began in the Ballycolman estate at 8.30 last night following reports that a device had been thrown at police earlier that evening. It emerged a member of the public lifted the device and placed it to waste ground at the old Adria factory site.
Police cordoned off the area and called in army experts who carried out a controlled explosion after confirming it was a viable device.
The alert ended just before 3 o’clock this morning.
Ulster Unionist MLA Ross Hussey asked when those responsible for the attack are they going to come out from the shadows and face up to reality.
He contrasted their actions with the member of the public who risked his life to protect his community.
