The Northern Ireland executive has failed to agree a plan to more than halve the number of Northern Ireland’s councils to 11.
SDLP, Sinn Fein and Alliance ministers all voted for the 11 council model but the three DUP ministers voted against. The UUP ministers did not vote.
Under the plan Strabane and Derry Councils were to be merged but now next year council elections will be based on the original model of 26
