A Donegal Councillor says it’s important that the courts send a clear message to criminals that terrorising local communities will not be tolerated.
Cllr Paul Canning says a recent case in which a sentence was appealed actually saw the judge decide to increase it, and that was an important message to send out.
Cllr Canning is calling for harsher sentences, and an end to the perception of the courts being a soft touch. He says all involved, including barristers, must ensure that while everyone’s right to due process and a fair trial is upheld, the victims of crime are not forgotten………
