A Donegal councillor is calling for the abolition of Joint Policing Committees, saying they serve no purpose and are not a substitute for real accountability and reform.
Last week, a meeting of the County Donegal JPC was adjourned after the Chairperson Cllr Noel Mc Bride clashed with Cllr Frank Mc Brearty. Cllr Mc Brearty was attempting to raise the issue of garda use of informants with Chief Superintendent Terry McGinn when Cllr Mc Bride ruled him out of order and tolds him to stick to the agenda.
Cllr Mc Brearty challenged the chair, accussing him of stifling debate and protecting his party in government.
