Deignan excited about Giro

Letterkenny’s Philip Deignan is excited about the prospect of competing in this year’s edition of the Giro d’Italia which starts in Belfast this weekend.
Deignan can’t wait to roll down the start ramp on Friday and put this season’s injury problems behind him.
Over the past eight months the Team Sky rider has broken both his collarbone’s. At the end of last season he broke his left on the Tour of Britian and done his right in February preparing for the Ruta del Sol.
Since then he has ridden the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali and the Giro del Trentino, and is still hopeful that he can have an impact on the big stage.
Speaking with Cycling News Philip said, “It’ll definitely be special for me being in Ireland for the Giro and I’m sure it’s going to be hectic, maybe we won’t be able to enjoy it too much at the time but looking back, when we’re finished, there’ll be a lot of good memories I’m sure,”
Deignan will tackle his first Grand Tour in three years where he finished in 47^th in the 2011 Giro.
The tour starts on Friday with a Team Time Trail followed by two stages in Northern Ireland, the event then heads for Italy.
